brainstorm @ using a blog
I'm not sure which the hell blog I'm on. My tablet has zipped to the summer reading blog I established. This is apparently a concern -- next question -- but anyway, it's an explanation. I have used a blog for the summer reading, but I can definitely do it more/better/different for summer 2006. And I had a discussion board for CWS. I liked each in different ways. I just e-mailed Carol Peters about using social software for our 1-credit class this semester. I am interested in, and excited by, the possibilities, but remain skeptical about the possible negative effects on both class discussion and assigned papers. Student informality on blogs and discussion boards is problematic for me. Don't they get enough of that IM? I feel as though we're institutionalizing that crappy IM'ing mentality when there is an emphasis on social software.
